Money Raised for Oral Cancer Awareness Month

As a result of Dr. Cathy Santone’s fundraising efforts, $875 was raised during the month of April for the Oral Cancer Foundation! This exciting news comes after our cosmetic dentist donated 100 percent of the proceeds made from oral cancer screenings during April — 2017’s Oral Cancer Awareness Month — to the foundation. The money raised will go towards the prevention, education, and research of the disease in the hopes of better supporting those affected by oral cancer and their loved ones.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, roughly 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer every year. While the disease can affect anyone, individuals who smoke, drink, use tobacco products, or can be exposed to HPV are at a higher risk for developing oral cancer.

Annual oral cancer screenings are invaluable to early detection and swift treatment of the disease. These screenings can easily be performed during a routine dental visit and are a vital part of maintaining good oral health. Our team at Encinitas Cosmetic Dentistry would like to thank all of the patients who contributed to our donation by undergoing an oral cancer screening during April. We encourage all individuals to continue with their annual oral cancer screenings in order to remain proactive about their oral health and catch any abnormalities early on.
